Petr Cech is one of a talented goalkeeper in the world. The extraordinary reflexes become the characteristic of this Czech Republic goalkeeper. He has also successfully brought Chelsea to be one of the best team in the world and managed to present the Champions League title for that London team. Now, Petr Cech is known as a goalkeeper who uses head protection. How did he start to use this headpiece?
This is the terrible story that forced him to wear ‘helmet’ during a match..
It started from a match against Reading in 2016. When the match had just begun, Cech already had a terrific accident which could not be forgotten for his whole life. A Reading winger, Stephen Hunt could not resist himself from bumping to Petr Cech. Although Petr Cech who was the Chelsea goalkeeper at that time had already managed to secure the ball, Hunt could not stop himself so that his knee bumped on the skull bones of Petr Cech. As a result, that Czech goalkeeper should undergo such a long emergency treatment before eventually being taken out of the field by the medical team.
Continuing his terrible tragedy, Cech should undergo some treatments for 10 days in a row.
“I do not even remember why the accident could happen,”
“I saw him on the television but I decided to focus on my recovery.”
Jose Mourinho as a current Chelsea manager was continuously blaming Hunt for this incident. He also blamed the referee as he did not give any strict sanction to that Reading player. After having a checkup, it was known that Cech’s skull bones were broken so that he should be operated and rest for three months. During the recovery, Cech was reported to have an extreme constant headache. The doctor said that the incident can cause death if only Cech’s skull had more severe cracks. The doctor suggested using a head protection if he still wanted to play football.
Fortunately, Cech was able to have his match again in the middle of January 2007 against Liverpool with a new appearance, which is using a protective helmet on his head. Cech is continuously using it until now as he strengthens Arsenal. In an interview, Cech admitted feeling disappointed on Hunt.
“I am disappointed as Hunt speaks many things to the media but he never calls me. I got a letter of apology from Reading with his signature, but that is it. Nothing more.”
However, his protection helmet is now becoming his characteristic for this goalkeeper with a back number of 36. The helmet also makes him plays better in the league. Without the helmet, Cech may not be able to win the titles of Champions League, Europe League, Premier League trophy and FA trophy. Even until now, Peter Cech is a clean sheets longest record holder in Premier League as he has managed to secure the goal from being stolen for over 2025 minutes.
There is also a unique fact about his protective helmet. Petr Cech admitted that he likes that head piece on hishead.
“I am more confidence if I take it off. Like it or not, that head protection affects my environment. My ear is covered and causes my hearing becomes worse.”
“But the doctor warned me to take it off. If I force myself to take it off, the doctor will not guarantee my safety.”
Now, Cech continues his journey in London Cannon Club. His strong and confident figure make him deserves to be emulated by everyone.
